VOLUNTEERING AT FCEMS

EMS Member

These members are expected to provide service to the community by staffing ambulances to provide emergency care, responding to 911 calls and providing support during scheduled standbys.  

  • Required Certifications:

    • Virginia EMT-B or Higher

    • EVOC

    • AHA HCP CPR 

  • Additional Requirements:

    • 18 Years of Age or Older​

    • Valid Virginia Driver's License

    • Good Driving Record

    • Pass a Criminal Background Check

  • Service Requirements:

    • 24 Hours (staffing ambulances)​

    • Mandatory Training Program​

Associate Member

​These members are interested in serving their community and gauging interest in EMS by scheduling ride-alongs and learning operations. Members will Associate Members must choose either the EMS Member or Auxiliary Member pathway and be enrolled in the required certification courses within 1 year of membership

  • Required Certifications:

    • Enroll in EMS Member or Auxiliary Member Certification Requirements 

  • Additional Requirements:

    • 18 years of age or older 

    • Valid Virginia Driver’s License 

    • Good Driving Record 

    • Pass a Criminal Background Check 

  • Service Requirements:

    • Participate in Assigned Duty Hours

Auxiliary Member

These members provide service by supporting the agency and its members. They support by providing additional resources when requested (driving, lift assistance, CPR, etc.) and planning meals and events. 

  • Required Certifications:

    • EVOC​

    • AHA HCP CPR

  • Additional Requirements:

    • 18 Years of Age or Older​

    • Valid Virginia Driver’s License 

    • Good Driving Record 

    • Pass a Criminal Background Check 

  • Service Requirements:

    • Participate in Assigned Duty Hours 

YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES

Junior EMS Member

These members are trained in Basic Life Support but have not reached the age requirements to be a fully cleared provider. 

  • Required Certifications:

    • Virginia EMT-B​

    • AHA HCP CPR

  • Additional Requirements:

    • Parental Consent Form​

  • Service Requirements:

    • 12 Hours of Assigned Duties​

Junior Cadet Program

​Interested youth ages 15-17 will be able to participate in the program in Spring of each year with the goal of becoming an EMT. Cadets will learn basic life support skills including CPR and bleeding control. Cadets will participate in scheduled ride-alongs to learn about EMS.

An EMT Course will be taught in Fall of each year and Junior Cadets will be eligible to apply for a scholarship to cover the cost of their course. Upon completion of the EMT course Cadets may be granted Junior EMS Membership.
